Equatorial Guinea sex scandal takes tragic turn as one victim commits suicide

One of the women implicated in the recent Equatorial Guinea scandal has reportedly taken her own life after a video of her involvement circulated online.

According to multiple sources, the woman ended her life upon seeing the footage trending widely.

The scandal centres on Baltasar Ebang Engonga, head of Equatorial Guinea’s National Financial Investigation Agency (ANIF), whose alleged misconduct has stirred international attention.

Engonga, son of Baltasar Engonga Edjoo, a prominent figure in the Economic and Monetary Community of Central Africa (CEMAC), faces accusations of embezzling close to $1 billion and engaging in affairs with over 400 influential women.

AFRIPOST reports that these relationships involve high-profile figures, including the spouses of key government officials—such as the Director of Security, the Attorney General, and various ministers—as well as relatives, including his brother’s wife and a pregnant wife of his uncle.

The scandal unfolded when investigators reportedly uncovered a trove of compromising evidence on Engonga’s devices during a corruption investigation, exposing the scale of his alleged affairs.

Public reaction on social media, particularly on X (formerly Twitter), has been intense, with clips circulating and prompting widespread outrage.

AFRIPOST gathered that a member of the presidential security team, whose own spouse was allegedly involved, facilitated the leak of these videos, escalating tensions within the country’s elite.
