Activist and former presidential candidate Omoyele Sowore has accused Attorney General of the Federation (AGF), Lateef Fagbemi, of misleading the public regarding the detention and charges against a group of underage protesters.
According to Sowore, Fagbemi provided false information about the detention status and legal actions taken against these young protesters.
Sowore claims that the children, who were participating in a protest, are being held in custody and face charges, contrary to Fagbemi’s statements.
This incident has sparked significant public concern, with Sowore calling for transparency and accountability from government officials regarding the handling of young protesters in Nigeria.
In a tweet on his X (Twitter) page on Monday, Sowore wrote, “Before we forget, the malnourished minors who were arraigned for TREASON last week by the ignoble @officialABAT regime are still languishing in detention at the Abattoir detention cell of @PoliceNG in the Apo area of Abuja, unable to fulfil the inhuman bail conditions set by Justice Obiora Egwuatu of the Federal High Court in Abuja.
“The Attorney General of the Federal government, Lateef Fagbemi, has yet to “work” on their case files (even though he lied that he didn’t sign off on the charges, he met several times with the IG of @PoliceNG to decide on the charges; @PoliceNG can’t just charge citizens for TREASON without the input of the AGF).
“Most importantly, this wicked regime must be shown the way out. #TinubuMustGo #RevolutionNow. #Revolution.”
