A fire broke out at the Ajah market near the Alesh bus stop in Lekki, Lagos, causing damage worth millions of naira. The incident occurred on Sunday evening.
According to a statement from Olufemi Oke-Osanyintolu, the permanent secretary of the Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA), their response team arrived at the scene around 10:10 pm on Sunday. Preliminary assessments indicated no injuries or casualties.
“Upon arrival of the Shark Response Team at 10:10 pm, it was found that numerous shops containing flammable materials were ablaze,” Oke-Osanyintolu reported. Investigations by LASEMA’s response team have yet to determine the fire’s exact cause.
Despite significant property loss, there were no reported injuries or fatalities. LASEMA, working with the Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service, managed to contain the fire and prevent it from spreading to neighbouring structures.
During firefighting efforts, responders also dealt with a large, agitated crowd. The fire was fully under control by the time of this report.
