The Nasarawa State Police Command has reported that a soldier died after a violent clash with a special police constabulary officer at Agyaragu market in Lafia Local Government Area on Sunday.
The confrontation reportedly started as an argument between the two, eventually leading to injuries on both sides.
DSP Ramhan Nansel, the Police Public Relations Officer, stated that the soldier, who was on leave from his assignment in Borno State, allegedly attacked the constable with a knife.
In the struggle, the constable seized the knife and stabbed the soldier. Both men were taken to the hospital, where the soldier later died from his injuries.
Following the soldier’s death, a group of his colleagues reportedly gathered and attempted to storm the local police station. Police on duty managed to fend off the attack, though two individuals were killed, and two others sustained injuries in the confrontation.
DSP Nansel noted that peace has been restored in Agyaragu after Commissioner of Police, CP Shehu Umar Nadada, visited the area to address the situation.
The police have also initiated a search for individuals involved in additional attacks on the community’s police station.
