Gov. Fubara reveals root cause of political crisis in Rivers

Governor Siminalayi Fubara of Rivers State has attributed the ongoing political turmoil in the state to attempts by his opponents to gain control over the state’s resources.

Governor Fubara shared these remarks while attending the 51st birthday celebration of Apostle Chibuzor Chinyere, General Overseer of Omega Power Ministries Worldwide, and the church’s 18th anniversary in Mbodo, Aluu, near Port Harcourt.

He stated, “The reason behind this crisis is the struggle over Rivers State’s resources. These resources belong to you, and we are committed to ensuring they are used responsibly for the good of Rivers State. What we ask is your continued prayers. We cannot lose focus, as we know challenges often arise to distract leaders from their purpose. With your prayers, we will remain committed to serving the people and achieving our goals for Rivers State.”

The governor has faced a long-standing rift with his predecessor, Nyesom Wike, and 27 pro-Wike members in the state House of Assembly.

Despite President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s intervention in December 2023, tensions remain high, with the latest incident being a Federal High Court order for the Central Bank of Nigeria to withhold fund allocations to the state from the Federation Account.

During the event, Governor Fubara commended Apostle Chinyere for his humanitarian efforts and made a substantial donation to support the church’s projects.

He remarked, “I commend you for your selflessness. Life is about giving, not just taking, and you have shown what it means to make a positive impact. God will continue to strengthen you. Many may not fully understand the extent of your contributions, but we do, and they are invaluable. Your dedication to education and community service is remarkable, especially considering the state of some of our own systems.”

Governor Fubara further expressed gratitude to the church community, stating, “Congratulations to the church, and thank you all for supporting Apostle Chinyere’s mission. His prayers and those of this church have been instrumental in keeping us strong despite our challenges. There is nothing God cannot do, and with your ongoing support, we will overcome these present difficulties.”

He also announced a N200 million donation toward the completion of a new building for the church’s television station, adding, “I need more power, more strength for the progress of Rivers State and the defense of humanity here. Thank you for your prayers; I promise, we will not fail you.”
