FG speaks following mass arrest of Nigerians in Libya over CAF ruling

The Nigerian Ministry of Foreign Affairs has reassured its commitment to the safety and well-being of Nigerian citizens in Libya after the Confederation of African Football (CAF) issued a ruling against the Libyan Football Association.

AFRIPOST reports that the CAF decision followed complaints of poor treatment faced by the Nigerian football team during a recent Nations Cup qualifying match in Libya.

In a statement released Sunday, Eche Abu-Obe, the Ministry’s spokesperson, confirmed that Nigerians in Libya are currently safe and conducting their daily activities without interference.

“The Ministry of Foreign Affairs affirms that, as of this statement, Nigerians in Libya are continuing with their daily lives, free from any form of harassment by Libyan authorities,” the statement read. “This follows CAF’s verdict, which held the Libyan Football Association accountable for its improper treatment of the Nigerian team and officials during their stay in Libya for the Nations Cup Qualifier.”

The Ministry also emphasized that the Nigerian government remains committed to protecting its citizens worldwide and will persist in its efforts to ensure their safety at all times.
