APC criticizes Makinde’s Presidential aspirations, urges focus on Oyo governance

Must read

The All Progressives Congress (APC) has called on Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde to prioritize his role as governor instead of focusing on his potential 2027 presidential ambitions.

The party expressed concern that Makinde’s attention on national political aspirations could detract from his duties to the people of Oyo.

Felix Morka, APC’s National Publicity Secretary, stated on Sunday, urging Governor Makinde to avoid undermining the ruling party as he navigates his political path.

Morka emphasized that, while democracy allows Makinde the freedom to pursue his ambitions, he should not do so at the expense of his responsibilities to Oyo residents.

“Makinde has every right to pursue his political goals,” Morka said, “but disregarding his elected duties for personal ambition is unfair to the people of Oyo State.”

Morka’s statement was in response to comments made by Makinde at an event in Ibadan, where the governor suggested that the 2027 election would pit the APC against Nigerians.

Makinde, while inaugurating the Late Olusoji Adagunodo PDP zonal secretariat, insisted that he alone would determine the course of his political future.

However, Morka criticized the governor’s remarks, calling them irresponsible and indicative of a declining political party.

He argued that Makinde’s pursuit of a presidential bid should not involve baseless attacks on the APC or on President Bola Tinubu’s administration, which he described as launching historic economic reforms.

“Makinde’s unrestrained ambition for 2027 is misguided,” Morka said, accusing the governor of neglecting his responsibilities in Oyo to focus on his political future. “His leadership has failed to meet the needs of Oyo residents, which diminishes his credibility.”

Morka also suggested that Makinde and other PDP leaders were reacting out of fear that the APC’s economic initiatives could disrupt their plans for the 2027 elections.

“Makinde cannot claim to represent the will of the people of Oyo, let alone speak for Nigerians. His focus should be on governing, rather than entertaining aspirations that disregard the priorities of those who elected him,” Morka concluded.
