President Cyril Ramaphosa extended his congratulations to Botswana’s President-elect, Duma Boko, on Friday, following the successful conclusion of elections in Botswana.
In a statement, Ramaphosa commended Boko’s leadership and the coalition led by the Umbrella for Democratic Change (UDC) for their achievement in the recent elections.
Ramaphosa also acknowledged the transition efforts of outgoing President Mokgweetsi Masisi, marking the end of the Botswana Democratic Party’s 58-year tenure.
The president highlighted that this peaceful and democratic transition is a positive reflection of the political maturity in Botswana and across the region.
“The success of the election in our sister nation is an important and affirming demonstration of democratic maturity in our region and on our continent,” said President Ramaphosa.
He expressed South Africa’s commitment to strengthening its relationship with Botswana, aiming for enhanced cooperation that will benefit both nations.
As Botswana prepares for a new administration, Ramaphosa’s message emphasises the importance of continued collaboration between the neighbouring countries.
