The Ogun State Police Command has successfully rescued an 80-year-old man, Rufus Odusanya, and another victim, Oluwaseye Olajide, who were reportedly kidnapped near Edun village junction in Obafemi Owode Local Government Area.
SP Omolola Odutola, the command’s spokesperson, confirmed the rescue in a statement on Friday in Abeokuta.
The incident occurred around 3:00 p.m. on Thursday.
Odutola explained that the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) of Owode Egba received an anonymous distress call reporting the abduction of the elderly man and one other individual.
Acting swiftly, the DPO mobilized his team along with local hunters to track down the kidnappers.
The suspects, six in number, were reportedly armed with rifles and cutlasses. The police and hunters coordinated efforts to block potential escape routes and confined the suspects to known security checkpoints.
“Realizing that their plans had been thwarted by the police, the kidnappers abandoned the two hostages and fled the scene,” Odutola said.
The police spokesperson added that detectives are actively pursuing the kidnappers as the investigation continues.
