FCT approves N33.24bn for new infrastructure projects

The Federal Capital Executive Committee has greenlit contracts totaling N33.24 billion for projects to be executed over the next year.

The approvals were granted during the committee’s 9th meeting, chaired by FCT Minister Nyesom Wike, held in Abuja on Friday.

Speaking to journalists after the meeting, Chidi Amadi, the Chief of Staff to the Minister, noted that the projects are part of the FCT administration’s commitment to enhancing essential services for residents of the Federal Capital Territory.

Providing further insights, Mandate Secretary of the Transportation Secretariat, Dr. Chinedum Elechi, announced an allocation of N7.22 billion for constructing access roads to Kugbo and Mabushi bus and taxi terminals.

This expansion follows the initial contracts awarded in May for building terminals in Kugbo, Mabushi, and the Central Business District. The project, awarded to Planet Projects Limited, is expected to be completed in 12 weeks.

Dr. Elechi also shared that 120,000 liters of Automotive Gas Oil and 40,250 liters of Premium Motor Spirit will be procured for the Wupa Basin Sewage Treatment Plant.

This contract, valued at N2.92 billion, was awarded to Safah and Fresh Limited, with a 12-month delivery timeframe.

Additionally, the committee approved the supply of 400,000 liters of Automotive Gas Oil to Lower Usuma Dam Water Treatment Plant for N638,550.

Executive Secretary of the Federal Capital Territory Development Authority, Shehu Ahmad, outlined other projects approved, including a N7.83 billion contract awarded to Levant Construction Limited for building an access road to the EFCC Academy in Giri District, to be completed in nine months.

Also, N2.19 billion was allocated to Austlinks Energy Services Ltd. for the design and construction of 10 staff quarters for the Nigerian Law School in Bwari, also expected within nine months.

The committee also authorized the rehabilitation and reconstruction of the Bill Clinton Road, linking to the Presidential Wing of Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport. This contract, awarded to Julius Berger at N9.88 billion, includes upgrades to facilities at the Presidential Wing, such as the hangar, taxiway, and apron, with a six-month completion timeline.

In addition, the Solicitor General and Permanent Secretary of the Legal Secretariat, Gardiya Bawa, announced a N605.94 million approval for furnishing new offices, procuring office equipment, and purchasing utility vehicles.

These projects reflect the FCT administration’s commitment to infrastructure development and service enhancement for residents.
