Dangote Refinery has denied allegations that it is selling Premium Motor Spirit (PMS), commonly known as petrol, at prices between N1,015 and N1,028 per litre, labeling the reports as false.
On Thursday, oil marketers reported that Dangote Refinery’s petrol price ranged from N1,015 to N1,028 per litre, suggesting that importing fuel from the global market might be more cost-effective, with the landing cost at N978.01 per litre as of October 31, 2024.
In response, Tony Chiejina, Chief Corporate Communications Officer of Dangote Group, dismissed these claims as “fake news.”
According to recent figures from the Major Energies Marketers Association of Nigeria, the current landing costs for diesel and aviation fuel are N1,069.97 and N1,119.67 per litre, respectively.
An oil marketer, speaking anonymously, claimed the refinery prices petrol at N1,015 per litre for bulk purchases and N1,028 per litre for smaller buyers, stating: “Dangote sells to bulk buyers at N1,015 per litre, while smaller-volume buyers are charged N1,028 per litre.”
However, Dr. Joseph Obele, Publicity Secretary of the Petroleum Products Retail Outlets Owners Association of Nigeria (PETROAN), explained that the slightly higher cost of Dangote’s petrol could be due to the refinery’s use of imported crude oil for processing.
