Ebonyi Police raid criminal hideouts, arrest organ harvesters, 173 others

According to the Ebonyi State Police Command, in October 2024, it detained at least 177 suspected offenders for a variety of offences.

Four of the 177 individuals were accused of participating in ritual executions and the harvesting of human organs, according to the Command.

At a press conference in Abakaliki on Friday, Police Public Relations Officer DSP Joshua Ukandu said that officers and men from the Command had taken 177 suspects into custody, including 162 men and 15 women.

He said, “92 suspects among them have been charged to court, while others would be arraigned once investigations are completed.

“I am here to update you on the Command’s achievements within October 2024 and our relentless efforts to combat crimes and ensure a safe and prosperous environment for socio-economic growth in the State.

“The command has employed strategic steps through increased stakeholder engagement to help bring crimes to the barest minimum. Through this approach, we have been able to reduce the incidences of violent crimes, while operatives of the command are not relenting in our efforts to make the state safe for all.”

According to the Command’s spokesperson, Blessing Chikezie complained to the Command on October 11 about her missing husband, Idenyi Chikezie, who departed the house on September 9 for a business trip to Lagos, about the suspected organ harvesting and ritual killings.

Other individuals were taken into custody on charges of robbery, murder, abduction, and illegal gun ownership.
