In a recent interview on Channels Television’s Politics Today, Sunday Dare, a Special Adviser to President Tinubu on Public Communications and Orientation, stated that former President Muhammadu Buhari’s rise to the presidency would not have been possible without the endorsement of current President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
Dare highlighted the significant role Tinubu played in securing Buhari’s electoral success, noting that his support was crucial in unifying the party and rallying essential political backing.
“Without President Tinubu’s endorsement, Buhari would not have emerged as president,” Dare asserted, underscoring the importance of Tinubu’s influence within the political landscape during Buhari’s campaign.
The aide’s remarks bring renewed focus to Tinubu’s political impact and his role in shaping Nigeria’s leadership.
“If you look at the role Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu played in the emergence of Muhammadu Buhari and I can say clearly that without Tinubu’s role in forming the party, making the platform to be there, President Buhari would not have emerged,” the presidential aide stated further.
During the show, he also weighed in on Buhari’s performance in whose government he served as Minister of Sports and Youth Development.
He, however, refused to say whether Buhari failed in his eight-year tenure. The former minister explained that government is a continuum.
“Buhari came, did his bit and moved on. President Obasanjo did his bit and moved on, Yar’adua came, did his bit and moved on. Jonathan came, did his bit and moved on.
“President Bola Tinubu is there with the requisite experience and courage to take tough decisions that other presidents did not take,” he added.
On the issue of removing the subsidy on petrol and other reforms aimed at positioning the nation’s economy, Dare stated that the President should be commended for removing the subsidy and bringing in policies that will positively shape Nigeria’s economy.
