Ondo Amotekun arrests 27 suspected criminals in statewide crackdown

The Ondo State Security Network Agency, known as Amotekun Corps, has announced the arrest of 27 individuals suspected of various crimes, including kidnapping, theft, murder, and burglary, as part of a recent effort to maintain peace and security across the state.

These arrests were the result of a two-week operation targeting criminal activity across all 18 Local Government Areas in Ondo State.

The suspects were publicly presented on Tuesday at Amotekun’s headquarters in Akure.

Adetunji Adeleye, Commander of Amotekun, stated, “Today, we have a total of 27 suspects on parade. In the last two weeks across the state, we have 27 suspects involved in law-breaking activities.” While acknowledging sporadic kidnapping incidents near border areas, he assured that “the entire 18 local governments are at peace.”

Adeleye highlighted Ondo State’s “peaceful, community-friendly, and investment-friendly” environment, adding that Amotekun personnel are deployed throughout farmlands and government forest reserves to keep criminal activities under control.

Among those arrested, Adeleye mentioned a 30-year-old suspect linked to cultism and attempted attacks on law enforcement.

Another case involved a 42-year-old, Gbenro, who allegedly assaulted Amotekun officers, underscoring the dangers security personnel face.

In other incidents, 21-year-old Samuel Peter was arrested for attempted murder, while Akimade Friday stands accused of the murder of a 65-year-old man.

Theft was also a key focus of the operation, with 20-year-old Segun Owolabi allegedly specializing in motorcycle theft.

Additionally, four young men, Toba, Pelumi, Ogumade, and Oriade, aged between 22 and 25, were detained for suspected involvement in multiple house burglaries.
