The House of Representatives has called on the public to remain calm as investigations proceed into an alleged assault on a commercial driver by Rep. Alex Ikwechegh (APGA-Abia).

In a statement on Monday, House spokesperson Rep. Akin Rotimi acknowledged the media coverage surrounding the incident, which reportedly involved a physical altercation and threatening language towards an e-hailing driver, Stephen Abuwatseya.

“The 10th Assembly, House of Representatives, takes these allegations very seriously. As elected officials, we hold ourselves to the highest standards of ethical conduct and accountability in our official and private lives,” Rotimi stated.

“Any conduct that fails to meet these standards is concerning, and we are committed to addressing such matters with the utmost seriousness.”

Rotimi noted that the case is currently under police investigation and encouraged the public to allow the process to unfold fully.

He also welcomed feedback from the public, directing any comments or information regarding the matter to be sent to his email at akintunde.rotimi@nass.gov.ng or akinrotimi@gmail.com.

He concluded by emphasizing the House’s commitment to accountability, transparency, and ethical behavior, principles that guide the 10th House of Representatives.
