Kaduna: Over 50 hoodlums storm Zaria community, attack residents, snatch phones, escape unhindered

In a brazen attack that has left the residents of Graceland community in Zaria, Kaduna shaken, over 50 armed hoodlums stormed the area on Saturday evening, unleashing terror as they attacked locals, stole personal belongings, and then escaped unchallenged.

The attackers, armed with various weapons, targeted people on the streets and in local businesses and even broke into homes, stealing mobile phones, jewellery, and cash.

Eyewitnesses report that the hoodlums arrived at around 7: 30 p.m., causing panic among residents who scrambled for safety.

According to some Graceland community members, the attackers moved in coordinated groups, with some blocking main roads while others swept through houses and shops, systematically seizing valuables from defenceless residents.

One resident, Mr Ibrahim, exclusively recounted to AFRIPOST the harrowing experience, describing how his family was forced to hide indoors as attackers moved door-to-door, banging on doors and threatening those inside.

“We have never felt this unsafe. They came in such large numbers, and there was nothing we could do. We just prayed for safety,” Ibrahim stated.

Multiple victims report that the hoodlums targeted mostly young adults, snatching mobile phones and jewellery, items that could be quickly taken and sold. Another resident, who wished to remain anonymous, said her small shop was raided. “They came in, demanded cash, and took everything valuable. This was my only source of income, and now I have nothing,” she explained tearfully.

The absence of a prompt security response has left the residents of Graceland in Zaria outraged and fearful of future attacks. According to local sources, several residents attempted to reach law enforcement during the incident, but security forces were nowhere to be found even after the attackers had fled.

This delay in response has led to concerns about the effectiveness of security measures in Zaria and surrounding areas, where similar incidents have reportedly become more common in recent months.

The incident has reignited calls for increased security presence and measures in Kaduna State, particularly in Zaria, where rising crime has left communities vulnerable. Community leaders have urged the Kaduna State Government to address security lapses and deploy additional personnel to prevent similar occurrences.

State authorities are yet to release an official statement on the incident, also the Kaduna State Police Command has yet to launch an investigation to identify and apprehend those responsible.

Residents of Graceland in Zaria remain sceptical, fearing that without sustained security reinforcement, such incidents may become a regular threat to their safety and livelihood.
