The Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL), under President Bola Tinubu’s government, has again increased the price of fuel at the pump amid growing economic difficulties.
Residents in Lagos and Abuja would now pay N1,025 and N1,060 per litre, respectively, due to the increased hike.
In October, NNPCL stations in Abuja and Lagos cost N1,030 and N998 per litre for petrol, respectively, while other stations charged between N1,150 and N1,200.
AFRIPOST reports that NNPCL stations in Lagos and Abuja announced the revised pricing on Tuesday. The move was ascribed to the current economic climate, which may put further hardship on Nigerians who are already dealing with a sharp increase in living expenses.
Petrol prices have skyrocketed from N145 to over N1,000 after President Tinubu assumed office on May 29, 2023, and declared the end of the fuel subsidy, further straining residents’ finances.
The economic woes under his administration have led many Nigerians to refer to the President as “T-Pain” (Tinubu-pain).
