Kwankwaso reveals why it is better for the North to back Tinubu in 2027

Ilyasu Musa Kwankwaso, the Kano State chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC), has called for northern politicians and leaders to support President Bola Tinubu’s 2027 reelection campaign.

AFRIPOST reports that he underlined the North’s strategic advantage in winning the presidency in 2031.

Supporting Tinubu and Vice President Kashim Shettima, according to Kwankwaso, will guarantee a more seamless return of power to the North during the president’s second term.

Speaking to reporters in Kano on Sunday, Kwankwaso voiced worries about the critiques and divisive campaigns that some Northern elements have been directing at President Tinubu, calling them activities that are harmful to the region’s long-term interests.

“Patriotic northern politicians must not heed the voices calling for alternative candidates from the South,” Kwankwaso stated. “If another candidate wins in 2027, the North may face an extended eight-year wait for power to return.”

Kwankwaso denied assertions that support for Tinubu should be discouraged by the nation’s present security issues.

He praised the president’s continuous efforts to combat instability and armed banditry, especially in the North.

Kwankwaso urged unity and urged northern lawmakers to back Tinubu’s government, highlighting recent military victories against banditry in the North and Northwest by Minister of State for Defence Bello Matawalle.

In response to reports that former Kano governor Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso could run with a Southern politician for vice president, he advised against supporting such a move, claiming it would postpone the restoration of power to the North until 2035.

“The best assistance we can give President Tinubu is to rally around him with our prayers and efforts to achieve peace in the country,” he said in conclusion, appealing to northerners to back Tinubu.
