Tinubu should dismiss more Ministers — Ndume

Must read

Senator Ali Ndume has called on President Bola Tinubu to remove additional ministers, arguing that some are underperforming, following the recent cabinet reshuffle.

In a statement released on Saturday, Ndume, who represents Borno South, praised Tinubu for creating the Ministry of Regional Development, calling it a “masterstroke.”

While he acknowledged the positive aspects of the reshuffle, he emphasized the need to eliminate more ministers who are “missing in action” to enhance government effectiveness.

Ndume also urged Tinubu to build on his “de-dollarisation” initiative by facilitating Nigeria’s entry into BRICS.

He believed this move could help reduce reliance on the U.S. dollar, benefiting Nigerian businesses—especially those trading with China—and alleviating pressure on the naira.

Also, Ndume recommended that Tinubu convene a national economic conference, engaging the Ministry of Budget and Economic Planning, the National Economic Adviser, and leading Nigerian economists to seek local solutions for the country’s economic issues.

“More needs to be done, as some ministers are still ‘missing in action.’ I’m particularly pleased about the establishment of the Ministry of Regional Development to oversee regional commissions. The President’s decision to streamline ministries also reflects his commitment to reducing the cost of governance,” Ndume stated.
