In the early hours of Sunday, an ambulance driver lost his life following a collision with a truck near TREM Church, along the Oworonshoki Expressway toward Gbagada, Lagos.
Witnesses reported the accident occurred around 1:30 a.m., involving an ambulance with license plate JBD-405HA and an unidentified truck.
Dr. Femi Oke-Osanyintolu, Permanent Secretary of the Lagos State Emergency Management Authority (LASEMA), confirmed the incident.
Preliminary findings indicate the truck was struck on its side while moving, which caused it to swerve into another lane.
“The unexpected lane shift resulted in the approaching ambulance, traveling at high speed, crashing beneath the truck. The ambulance driver was tragically trapped on impact and succumbed to his injuries,” Oke-Osanyintolu explained.
Emergency responders, including LASEMA, arrived promptly to clear the site, restore traffic, and ensure public safety. The driver’s body was removed and handed over to the Ambulance Association for transfer to the morgue, while the vehicles were turned over to the Nigerian Police Force for further investigation.
