Must read

The Nigerian Meteorological Agency (NiMet) has projected a mix of haziness and sunshine nationwide from Sunday to Tuesday, with varying weather conditions expected across different regions.

In its forecast released on Saturday, NiMet anticipates moderate dust haze in the northern region on Sunday, reducing visibility to between 2 and 5 kilometers, with localized areas experiencing visibility below 1,000 meters.

Weather Breakdown:

-Northern Region: Moderate dust haze with visibility reduced to 2-5 kilometers is expected, potentially dropping below 1,000 meters in certain areas.

  • North-Central Region: Sunny skies with scattered clouds are predicted in the morning, followed by possible thunderstorms with moderate rainfall in the Federal Capital Territory, Kogi, Benue, and Nasarawa states by afternoon and evening.

  • Southern Region: Thunderstorms with moderate rain are likely over Ondo, Akwa Ibom, and Cross River states in the morning, with thunderstorms expected to spread to other areas later in the day.

Continuing Monday and Tuesday:

On Monday, the northern region is set to experience similar hazy conditions with low visibility. The North-Central area should see a sunny morning with intermittent clouds, followed by thunderstorms in the afternoon across the FCT, Kwara, Benue, and Kogi states. The southern region may see morning thunderstorms with moderate rain in Imo, Ebonyi, Cross River, Akwa Ibom, Rivers, and Lagos states, with storms continuing later.

By Tuesday, the north is forecasted to maintain its moderate dust haze with restricted visibility. Sunny skies with cloud patches will cover the North-Central area, and thunderstorms with moderate rain are likely over parts of Cross River and Akwa Ibom states in the morning, potentially intensifying as the day progresses.

Health and Safety Advisories:

NiMet warned that dust particles may pose respiratory risks, especially for those with asthma or other respiratory conditions. Strong winds may also accompany thunderstorms in certain areas, so residents are advised to exercise caution. NiMet also recommends that airline operators seek weather-specific reports for effective flight planning.
