The Defence Headquarters reported that a naval officer assigned to Forward Operating Base (FOB) Dansadau, as part of Operation FANSAN YAMMA, fatally shot a fellow officer under unclear circumstances.
In a statement released on Friday, Maj.-Gen. Edward Buba, Director of Defence Media Operations, confirmed that the incident occurred early Friday at approximately 3:12 a.m. in the Dansadau area of Katsina State.
The officer involved, identified as Leading Seaman Akila A., has been detained and disarmed, with an investigation currently underway.
Maj.-Gen. Buba explained that, upon conclusion of the investigation, the case will be referred to a standing court-martial, a standard military procedure for handling such incidents.
“The administrative process to notify the deceased’s family is ongoing, which is why the deceased’s name has not yet been disclosed. We ask the media to exercise sensitivity in their reporting to avoid adding to the family’s grief,” Buba added.
