Must read

The National Association of Nigerian Nurses and Midwives (NANNMW), Kaduna State branch, has called off its indefinite strike, which began on October 2, following productive negotiations with the Kaduna State Government.

The strike suspension was announced after a key meeting on Thursday, October 24, led by Deputy Governor Dr. Hadiza Sabuwa Balarabe. During discussions with union leaders and senior officials—including the Secretary to the State Government, the Head of Service, and the Commissioner of Health—the government reaffirmed its commitment to improving the welfare of health workers.

Senator Uba Sani, the governor, has directed the Labor Matters Committee, chaired by Dr. Balarabe, to expedite negotiations on the new minimum wage and submit a report within seven days for implementation.

Health workers’ demands will be considered in the minimum wage discussions, underscoring the government’s dedication to addressing their concerns and enhancing working conditions.

In a circular signed by Public Relations Officer and Acting Secretary Comrade Yashi G. Nassa, the NANNMW urged nurses and midwives to resume duties starting at noon on Friday, October 25, 2024.

The resolution of the strike promises to restore stability in Kaduna’s healthcare sector, as health workers return to provide essential services to the community. The union has commended the government’s efforts in addressing the issues through constructive dialogue, benefiting both healthcare workers and residents.
