Kaduna Gov. implements half-salary policy to reduce governance cost

Must read

Governor Uba Sani of Kaduna State announced Friday that he and his cabinet are operating on half salaries, a measure aimed at cutting governance expenses to fund critical infrastructure, particularly in education and healthcare.

Speaking after a closed-door meeting with President Bola Tinubu at the Presidential Villa in Abuja, Governor Sani provided updates on the state’s progress.

He emphasized that, since taking office, neither he nor his cabinet members have acquired new vehicles, further contributing to government savings.

“We pledged to reduce governance costs in Kaduna State. So far, no government official, myself included, has received a new vehicle. This approach allows us to direct more resources toward improving education and healthcare,” he explained.

Governor Sani also highlighted strides in security, crediting enhanced collaboration among security agencies and local leaders.

He referenced a recent visit to Birnin Gwari, where the Emir affirmed the absence of insurgency incidents in recent months.

On education, he reported significant progress in reducing the number of out-of-school children from 680,000 to 300,000 due to substantial investments in school infrastructure.

“Over the past six months, we’ve constructed 62 secondary schools, added 2,340 classrooms, and hired more teachers.

Additionally, we’ve upgraded 12 secondary healthcare centers,” he said.

Looking ahead, the governor expressed excitement for upcoming projects, including the construction of 700 kilometers of roads and the launch of 100 CNG buses, which he invited President Tinubu to commission in support of the “Renewed Hope Agenda.”
