Gov Yusuf shuns court order, says no going back on Saturday’s LG elections

In reference to the state’s scheduled local government election on Saturday, Kano State Governor Alhaji Abba Kabir Yusuf has said, “No retreat, no surrender.”

The poll was declared invalid by the Federal High Court for “having card-carrying NNPP members as executive officers of the election commission.”

In front of a huge audience of party supporters and followers, Governor Yusuf made the claim Thursday night at the Sani Abacha Indoor Stadium as he presented NNPP flags to the 44 local government chairmen and councillor candidates.

According to the governor, the state would not let anyone disturb the current tranquillity that the people are enjoying at this time. The state government and Kano State Independent and Kano State Independent Electoral Commission (KANSIEC) have all the constitutional backing to hold the election.

The governor was quoted as saying, “No one will stop KANSIEC from holding the polls on Saturday.”

He emphasised that the administration is prepared to swear in the candidates that the electoral board has deemed the victors.

The governor then referred to those who held NNPP cards as true party supporters and asked them to return to their respective wards and thoroughly prepare for the election.

Given the support the party is receiving from the state’s citizens, the governor promised that it will win all 44 chairmen’s and 484 councillors’ seats.

He expressed gratitude to God Almighty for the state’s protection and the positive image the NNPP is upholding both inside and outside the state.

Dr Audu Ajuji, the NNPP’s Acting National Chairman and a native of Abuja expressed his optimism that the election will be peaceful, adding that the party is confident it will sweep all the elective positions without any hitches.

Alhaji Hashim Sulaiman Dungurawa, the state NNPP Party Chairman, called the meeting “outstanding” and stated that the party intends to remain in power past 2027.

Dungurawa went on to say that the party was thrilled to see the flags presented to the party’s most devoted bearers.

He stated that the state’s citizens always support the NNPP leaders due to their integrity, stressing that they also reject dishonest opposition politicians.

Members of the National and State Assemblies, commissioners, special advisers, party leaders and sympathisers, and government employees were among those who attended the presentation.
