Kebbi begins investigation into riot in Health College

Must read

An eight-member committee has been established by the Kebbi government to look into the violent protest that took place at the College of Health Sciences and Technology in Jega, Jega Local Government Area, on October 17.

Alhaji Yakubu Ahmed-BK, the Commissioner for Information and Culture, revealed this immediately after Wednesday’s State Executive Council (SEC) meeting in Birnin Kebbi.

“Following the October 17 violent protest that resulted in the setting ablaze the residence of the Provost of the college, Alhaji Haruna Saidu-Sauwa, and the subsequent directive to shut down the college, an eight-man committee has been set up to investigate the incident,” he said.

Ahmed-BK said that Safiyanu Garba-Bena would be the committee’s secretary and Alhaji Ibrahim Musa-Tungulawa, the Commissioner for Environment, would head the committee.

He claims that among other things, the committee’s mandate is to look into what caused the occurrence, estimate the amount of damage, and suggest strategies to prevent a repeat in the future.

The commissioner went on to say that the committee was established to ensure justice for all parties concerned, free from sentimental attachments, nepotism, and favouritism.

According to him, the committee, which took the position of the previous one, has two weeks to finish its work and submit its report to the state executive council for review.
