Flood: Gov Ododo drills boreholes, provides relief materials at IDP camps

To protect families displaced by flooding from waterborne diseases, Kogi State Governor Alh. Ahmed Usman Ododo has initiated the drilling of boreholes at Internally Displaced Persons (IDP) camps.

The state government announced that this initiative aims to alleviate the difficulties faced by those displaced as they search for clean water.

During a press briefing on Thursday, the Commissioner for Information, Kingsley Fanwo, stated that Governor Ododo has directed the Rural Water Supply and Sanitation Agency (RUWASSA) to commence borehole drilling at the IDP camps immediately, ensuring a sufficient supply of safe drinking water.

The governor issued this directive during his visit to several IDP camps, where he also called for the provision of additional relief materials to assist those affected by the floods.

To facilitate this effort, the state government has contracted a service provider, Komforte Koncept, to supply essential relief materials to the camps, addressing the immediate needs of the displaced individuals.

The governor’s quick response to the urgent need for water access is a result of the rising population and the challenges stemming from the recent flooding disaster.

RUWASSA has been given a 48-hour deadline to complete the drilling and install the necessary infrastructure, ensuring that camp residents have access to clean water throughout their stay.

Governor Ododo expressed his satisfaction with the contracted service provider tasked with delivering food, medical supplies, and other essentials to the IDP camps.

He emphasized the government’s commitment to the safety and well-being of all citizens, assuring residents that no one will be left behind in the ongoing support for IDPs, as efforts are made toward their rehabilitation and reintegration into society.

The relief materials distributed to the IDP camps include food items, clothing, medical supplies, and other essential provisions aimed at easing the suffering of those affected by the devastating floods.
