The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) Enugu Zonal Directorate has arraigned Blessing Amaka David-Agwa, a fake fertility nurse, before Justice Mohammed Garba Umar of the Federal High Court in Independence Layout, Enugu State.

David-Agwa faces a 45-count charge related to fraudulent impersonation, forgery, and obtaining money under false pretences amounting to N28,278,600.

One of the charges reads that in 2024, David-Agwa obtained N1.6 million from one Okenwa Joy Chiamaka by falsely claiming to be a fertility nurse, a claim she allegedly knew to be false. Another charge accuses her of defrauding Amarachi Okpala of N1.25 million under similar pretences.

The defendant pleaded not guilty to all charges. EFCC counsel Blessing N. Obasi requested a trial date and that David-Agwa be remanded in custody. However, her defence counsel, G.C.

Madubuegwu filed a bail application citing her right under the Administration of Criminal Justice Act. Obasi opposed the bail, citing the serious impact on the victims.

Justice Umar adjourned the case to November 12, 2024, for a ruling on the bail application, remanding David-Agwa to the Enugu State Correctional Facility in the meantime.

David-Agwa’s alleged criminal activities came to light on August 28, 2024, when the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) handed her over to the EFCC.

Investigations revealed that she forged certificates from the Nursing and Midwifery Council of Nigeria and the University of Nigeria, Nsukka, to pose as a fertility nurse, defrauding over 45 victims in the process.
