Must read

In a move to alleviate overcrowding in custodial facilities, Justice Dije Abdu-Aboki, the Chief Judge of Kano State, has ordered the release of 37 inmates from the Goron Dutse and Medium Security Custodial Centre.

This decision, announced by SC Musbahu Kofar-Nasarawa, the Public Relations Officer of the Nigerian Correctional Service (NCoS), was made public on Monday.

The released inmates were granted freedom primarily on health grounds and due to their prolonged detention without trial.

In her statement, the Chief Judge urged the freed individuals to maintain good behavior and avoid any actions that could lead them back into criminal activity. To assist with their reintegration, each inmate received N10,000 for transportation.

Ado Inuwa, the Controller of Corrections for Kano State, praised the initiative, highlighting the importance of addressing the issues of long-term incarceration and health concerns among inmates.
