BREAKING: Alex Otti approves N70,000 minimum wage for Abia civil servants

Must read

A ₦70,000 minimum wage for Abia State workers has been authorised by Governor Alex Otti.

The State Commissioner for Information, Prince Okey Kanu, emphasised the Governor’s dedication to helping the workforce during a news briefing on Tuesday on the outcomes of this week’s Executive Council meeting in Umuahia.

According to him, the new minimum wage will take effect at the end of October 2024.

He said: “Payment of minimum wage will commence in the next few days. The Governor has approved that.”

Meanwhile, Osun civil servants have voiced their displeasure with the government of Governor Ademola Adeleke’s tardiness in enforcing the recently agreed minimum wage.

AFRIPOST gathered that several public personnel expressed their opinions to reporters in Osogbo on Monday, saying that the implementation of the minimum wage was long overdue.

According to one worker, Opemipo, the state’s workers had been waiting for the new minimum wage to be announced and claimed that the state administration was deliberately delaying its implementation.

“I wonder what is causing the delay. Other neighbouring states have implemented theirs, and I wonder what is delaying our own.

”This economic hardship is becoming unbearable, and I appeal to Gov. Adeleke to act fast,” she told reporters.
