The Labour Party (LP) is facing escalating turmoil as the Forum of National Youth Leaders of Political Parties (FNYLPP) has officially distanced itself from Julius Abure and Kennedy Ahanotu, who serve as the national chairman and national youth leader, respectively.
In a statement released on Sunday, the Forum raised concerns over allegations of expired tenures and other irregularities surrounding Abure, whose leadership has been under scrutiny since his term ended on June 8, 2024.
Comrade Eragbe Anselm Aphimia, the Forum’s spokesperson, declared, “We caution Mr. Kennedy Ahanotu, the Deputy National Secretary of the Labour Party, against claiming the title of National Youth Leader. Failure to comply may result in serious consequences.”
He continued, “Likewise, Mr. Julius Abure must cease representing himself as the National Chairman of the Labour Party, as their unlawful tenures have officially ended.”
The statement further noted that during the Labour Party’s National Executive Council (NEC) meeting on September 4, 2024, Senator Esther Nenadi Usman and Senator Darlington Nwokocha were appointed as Chairperson and Secretary, respectively, to oversee a 29-member Labour Party Caretaker Committee (CTC) responsible for organizing congresses for the upcoming All-Inclusive and Expansive National Convention in 2025.
In related news, the Forum has expressed its support for Dr. Halimat Tejuosho as the preferred candidate for the role of Honourable Minister of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Alleviation.
