BREAKING: Immigration confirms arrest of Bobrisky at Seme Border

Must read

The Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS) has confirmed the arrest of popular social media personality Idris Okuneye, widely known as Bobrisky, at the Seme border on Monday while attempting to leave the country.

According to a statement by the NIS Public Relations Officer, Bobrisky was intercepted during a routine border check as part of an ongoing investigation into recent public controversies.

The statement read: “The Service wishes to inform the public that Okuneye Idris is a person of interest concerning recent issues of public concern.”

The NIS further emphasized its commitment to safeguarding Nigeria’s borders, adding, “In line with our duty to secure the nation’s borders, the Nigeria Immigration Service apprehended Okuneye Idris Olanrewaju, alias Bobrisky, at the Seme border while attempting to exit the country.

He is currently undergoing interrogation and will be handed over to the relevant authorities for further investigation.”

The arrest follows growing controversies surrounding Bobrisky, who, in April 2024, was sentenced to six months in prison by the Federal High Court in Lagos for currency abuse. Although detained at Kirikiri Prison, reports later surfaced suggesting Bobrisky had been transferred to a private location after serving only three weeks in custody.

Allegations of bribery emerged, with claims that N15 million was paid to secure his early release and preferential treatment.

In September 2024, Bobrisky found himself embroiled in another controversy when an audio recording surfaced online, allegedly involving human rights lawyer Femi Falana and his son, the musician Falz. The recording suggested Bobrisky had claimed the Falanas approached him while he was in prison, demanding N10 million to secure a presidential pardon.

Both Femi Falana and Falz denied the allegations and issued a cease-and-desist letter, calling for a public apology and retraction.

Bobrisky denied the accusations, stating that he was not responsible for the leaked recording and urged the Falanas to address the individual behind the leak instead.

The NIS concluded its statement by reaffirming its professionalism, saying, “The Service assures the public that it will continue to uphold civility and professionalism in fulfilling its responsibilities at the nation’s borders.”
