Nigeria’s U-17 women’s football team, the Flamingos, delivered another stellar performance at the U-17 World Cup, defeating Ecuador 4-0 in a dominant display.
The match, which took place on Friday, showcased the Nigerian team’s attacking prowess and defensive strength as they cruised to a comprehensive victory.
The African team established their dominance right away, and their exerted pressure paid off halfway through the first half when Shakirat Moshood broke the tie after midfield standout Taiwo Afolabi was fouled in the area.
Nigeria dominated, as their ability and speed really showed in the second stanza, with the exception of a few late first half Ecuadorian chances. Melany Pozo, the Ecuadorian replacement keeper, made a mistake that let Peace Effiong slide home into an open net after Harmony Chidi scored her first goal of the tournament with a strong right-footed effort. With a spectacular strike from a Chidi back-pass in stoppage time, Moshood then completed the celebrations with her second of the day.
This latest triumph cements Nigeria’s place as one of the top contenders in the tournament, with the team exhibiting skill, discipline, and cohesion in their play.
Ecuador struggled to keep up with the fast-paced play of the Flamingos, who maintained control for most of the match. Despite their efforts, the Ecuadorians found it difficult to break through Nigeria’s well-organized defense.
With this win, the Flamingos have advanced in the U-17 World Cup, carrying the hopes of Nigerian football fans for a potential title run. They are now gearing up for their upcoming fixture, where they will look to maintain their winning momentum.
As the tournament progresses, all eyes will be on the Flamingos to see if they can continue their outstanding form and challenge for the coveted U-17 World Cup trophy.
