Police arrest suspected cable thief in Lagos, pursue accomplice

The Lagos State Police Command has apprehended a suspected vandal, Demola Oladega, who is accused of stealing cables in the Ikotun area of the state.

This was confirmed by the command’s spokesperson, SP Benjamin Hundeyin, on Saturday. According to him, the arrest followed a report from a security guard on Wednesday at around 6:30 a.m.

SP Hundeyin explained, “The Ikotun Division received a distress call from a security guard stationed at a company on Governor’s Road, who noticed suspicious movements by two young men on a motorcycle. Acting on this information, the Divisional Police Officer quickly dispatched an anti-robbery patrol to the location. One suspect, Oladega, was arrested, while the other managed to escape.”

The police recovered vandalized cable wires, a used battery, and a motorcycle with registration number KSF 854 QK at the scene.

Efforts are ongoing to track down and apprehend the fleeing accomplice.
