APC leadership may postpone NEC meeting until 2025

Must read

The leadership of the All Progressives Congress (APC), under Abdullahi Ganduje, is reportedly considering postponing the inaugural meeting of the National Executive Committee (NEC) until 2025.

Sources within the APC Secretariat have indicated that the postponement is due to the busy schedule and current unavailability of President Bola Tinubu, who has not yet returned to the country.

“Currently, the President is not in the country, which was also the reason we had to cancel the initial dates set for September for the NEC meeting.

Given that there are only two months left in the year, holding the meeting this year seems unlikely. Additionally, scheduling it around the festive season in December is not feasible. It’s possible we might have to wait until 2025, as 2024 appears to be out of the question,” a source explained.

These concerns arise just two months after the APC announced an indefinite postponement of its National Caucus and National Executive Committee meetings, which were originally scheduled for September 11 and 12.

Although the reasons for this postponement were not explicitly stated, National Publicity Secretary Felix Morka mentioned that a new date would be announced in the future. However, sources revealed that both meetings were likely canceled due to Tinubu’s absence.

When reached for comment, Nze Chidi Duru, the National Deputy Organizing Secretary of the APC, confirmed that no new date has been established.

He stated, “As of now, we are not aware of any new date. The postponement remains in effect.”

Similarly, APC National Legal Adviser Abdulkareem Kana echoed Duru’s sentiments, saying, “We cannot predict when the next NEC meeting will take place. To my knowledge, a new date has not been fixed.

“We are unable to proceed until we receive a new date from the President, who is expected to return from his travels soon.”
