Tigran Gambaryan, the Chief Financial Crime Officer at Binance, was not brought before the Nigerian Correctional Service on Friday, October 18, because of grave health issues.
Having been held for 232 days on money laundering accusations alongside Binance, Gambaryan has apparently been “very sick,” according to authorities, which has prevented him from attending the court.
The second witness for the prosecution in the well-known case was supposed to continue being cross-examined by the court.
However, the defence team became alarmed when officials were first unable to explain Gambaryan’s location, leading to uncertainty.
Since he passed out in court in May, Gambaryan’s health has been a major concern. He had been experiencing recurrent episodes of pneumonia, malaria, and a worsening of a herniated disc disease.
He is mostly immobile and wheelchair-dependent due to his worsening health.
The court had earlier rejected Gambaryan’s second bail plea in spite of the grave health issues.
The court is currently concentrating on making sure the Binance executive receives proper medical treatment, and the next trial date has been set for October 25.
