The Lagos State Police Command has confirmed that Nollywood actress, Lizzy Anjorin-Lawal, has been cleared of any involvement in a gold theft allegation at the Oba Akintoye Market, Lagos Island.

Speaking on Friday, the State Police Public Relations Officer, Benjamin Hundeyin, provided an update, explaining that the investigation found no evidence of theft against the actress, despite earlier accusations from traders at the market.

Hundeyin clarified that the confusion arose from an error in the account details provided by the seller.

“Our investigation revealed that it was a mistake of facts. The seller had given the wrong account number, with one digit off, which led to the misunderstanding,” Hundeyin explained.

He further stated that Anjorin-Lawal had transferred the payment, around N90,000, to the incorrect account due to the mistake, and when the situation escalated, she opted to transfer the money again to the correct account to avoid further conflict.

Although the actress had been publicly accused of theft, Hundeyin confirmed that once the mistake was realized, those involved admitted their error in their statements to the police.

Anjorin-Lawal initially pursued charges for the assault she faced during the misunderstanding, but later withdrew the case after the suspects were arrested and brought to court.

“The police investigation confirmed that Lizzy Anjorin-Lawal did not steal; she was wrongly accused.

The confusion was due to the incorrect account details provided, and she even made a second transfer to resolve the issue,” Hundeyin concluded.
