The Kogi State Government has announced a restriction on all vehicular movement across the state on Saturday, from 7 a.m. to 4 p.m., in preparation for the local government elections.
In a statement released on Friday, Mr. Kingsley Fanwo, the state Commissioner for Information, explained that the measure was aimed at ensuring a smooth and incident-free election. It is also intended to safeguard the security of voters and citizens across the state’s 21 Local Government Areas.
The government has directed security agencies to strictly enforce this directive and hold violators accountable, Fanwo said.
He encouraged residents to actively participate in the elections to elect their local government representatives.
“We are committed to ensuring the safety of all voters as they exercise their right to vote on Saturday,” he assured the public.
Fanwo also expressed confidence in the ability of the Kogi State Independent Electoral Commission (KOSIEC) to conduct a transparent, free, and fair election.
He called on citizens to participate peacefully and make their voices heard through the ballot box, emphasizing that democracy is about the will of the people, not violence.
“The government remains committed to maintaining law and order to support the growth and development of the state,” Fanwo concluded.
