Kaduna state government imposes movement restrictions ahead of LG elections

The Kaduna State Security Council has announced a restriction of movement across the state ahead of the Local Government elections scheduled for Saturday, 19th October 2024.

The restriction will be in effect from 6 am to 7 pm on the election day to ensure a peaceful and orderly conduct of the polls.

The elections will involve the selection of councillors and chairmen for 255 wards and 23 Local Government Councils across Kaduna State.

To maintain security, the state government has ordered a halt to vehicular movement, as well as commercial and other activities that could disrupt law and order, during the restriction period.

Only individuals performing essential duties will be allowed to move during the restricted hours, provided they have proper identification and clearance. The state government has urged citizens to cooperate by refraining from actions that could disrupt public peace or interfere with the smooth conduct of the elections.

Security agencies have been fully deployed to enforce the movement restriction and maintain law and order throughout the state. Citizens are encouraged to report any suspicious activities or acts that threaten public safety to security agencies, rather than taking the law into their own hands.

For security-related concerns, the Kaduna State Security Operations Room can be contacted through the following phone numbers:

  • 09034000060
  • 08170189999

The announcement was made by Samuel Aruwan, the Overseeing Commissioner of the Ministry of Internal Security and Home Affairs, Kaduna State.
