NNPP expresses readiness for coalition to unseat APC in 2027

Must read

The New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP) has expressed its readiness to form alliances with other political parties to challenge the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) in the 2027 general elections.

Dr. Ajuji Ahmed, the NNPP National Chairman, made this known in Akure during the flag-off of the party’s 2024 gubernatorial campaign. He emphasized that the NNPP is open to discussions aimed at building a strong coalition capable of displacing the APC.

“We believe a coalition is essential, and the NNPP is ready to be part of it. Our doors are open for negotiations with other political parties. If there is a need for a united front ahead of 2027, we are prepared for it. However, if individual parties choose to go solo, the NNPP is also gearing up for that scenario,” Ahmed stated.

He acknowledged that the APC is working hard to secure victory in 2027, but urged opposition parties to stay united and build a credible alternative to the ruling party. He also encouraged NNPP supporters to safeguard their votes and resist any attempts at electoral manipulation.

“Wherever a ruling party exists, it often seeks to weaken the opposition. But it is our responsibility to protect our votes by ensuring credible agents oversee the voting and counting processes. With that in place, we believe there’s little the APC can do to manipulate the results,” he added.

Ahmed called on voters to prioritize integrity and reject vote-buying, stressing that the NNPP is committed to bringing positive change to the state.

In his address, Mr. Gbenga Edema, the NNPP’s gubernatorial candidate for the upcoming November election, urged voters to come out in large numbers on November 16, assuring them that their votes would count.

“Some have tried to instill fear, claiming votes won’t count or that they will be bought. But Ondo State is the people’s court, and we expect over 2 million votes. We know our people will choose NNPP,” Edema said.

He encouraged voters to face any threats of rigging with courage and reaffirmed the party’s confidence in protecting the people’s mandate. He also criticized Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa’s administration, challenging it to account for its activities over the past 10 months.

If elected, Edema promised free education up to university level and outlined a seven-point agenda that includes free healthcare, local government autonomy, rural development, security, and youth empowerment.

Similarly, Mr. Israel Ayeni, the Director-General of the 2024 NNPP Governorship Campaign in Ondo State, reaffirmed the party’s determination to lift the state out of its economic challenges and restore its position among leading states in the country.
