The Inspector-General of Police (IGP), Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, has expressed deep condolences to the people and government of Jigawa State, particularly the families affected by the tragic tanker explosion in Majia, Taura Local Government Area.
AFRIPOST reports that the explosion, which occurred at around 11:30 pm on October 15, 2024, claimed the lives of over 100 individuals and left more than 70 others seriously injured.
The IGP, on behalf of the Nigeria Police Force, commended the swift response of police personnel and emergency responders in extinguishing the fire, rescuing victims, and restoring normalcy in the area.
While mourning the loss of lives, IGP Egbetokun reassured the public of the implementation of robust safety sensitization programs to prevent future incidents, particularly highlighting the dangers of oil scooping. He urged motorists and road users to exercise caution and adhere to safety guidelines to avoid similar tragedies.
