Hon. Ugochinyere Ikeagwonu’s tenure as the federal representative for Ideato South in the National Assembly faces uncertainty following the introduction of a recall motion by Hon. Okechukwu Udenze from the Imo State House of Assembly.
The motion, which gained significant backing from community members and political figures, was presented at a grand event in Umuchima.
The occasion was originally organized to honor Governor Hope Uzodimma for his timely intervention in tackling a long-standing erosion problem that had posed a major threat to the constituency.
During the ceremony, appreciation was expressed for Governor Uzodimma’s leadership in awarding the erosion control project to Craneburg, a reputable construction firm, a move that helped prevent the isolation of Ideato South.
The traditional rulers, led by Eze Ewuzie, praised the governor’s actions, noting that past political leaders, including former governors, senators, and lawmakers, had not addressed the issue.
Governor Uzodimma’s impartiality and commitment to the people’s welfare were highly praised, especially given that he is not currently pursuing any political office.
Despite the positive atmosphere, the event also became a platform for residents to voice their dissatisfaction with Hon. Ikeagwonu, accusing him of neglecting his constituency’s needs in favor of personal political ambitions, often at odds with the governor’s development plans.
In a pivotal moment, Hon. Udenze moved the recall motion, which was warmly received by those in attendance.
The ceremony was graced by several dignitaries, including Hon. Ijeoma Arodiogbu, Southeast Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC); Hon. Ikechukwu Umeh, the APC’s Organising Secretary in Imo; and Hon. Nkechi Ugwu, Commissioner for Women Affairs.
The event concluded with calls for unity, urging the people of Ideato Federal Constituency to work together towards shared progress and development.
