A video circulating on social media allegedly shows the execution of two Red Cross staff members and a woman by Boko Haram militants in Ngoshe, Gwoza Local Government Area of Borno State. The authenticity of the video remains unverified.
This comes after reports by Vanguard on the killing of farmers and the kidnapping of residents in the area, with terrorists also looting farmland.
In the video, a Boko Haram leader, speaking in Hausa, claims the executions are retaliation for the harassment of their elders and children by security forces. While he states that some elderly women, including his sister, would be released, others, whom he labels enemies, were executed.
The video graphically shows the victims being murdered with an axe, accompanied by chants of “Allahu Akbar.”
Senator Mohammed Ali Ndume, who represents the affected area, confirmed that he has seen the video but is working to verify its authenticity. He reiterated his ongoing calls to the federal government to address the continued attacks on the people of Gwoza, who have returned to their homes despite the persistent Boko Haram threat.
Efforts to obtain a response from Yuxia Jiang, Communication Delegate for the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC), were unsuccessful at the time of reporting.
