Abuja residents in panic after discovering 12 corpses of suspected bandits

Following the discovery of 12 bodies on Tuesday morning that were thought to be those of bandits, residents of the Tokulo village in the Bwari Area Council, Federal Capital Territory (FCT), have been thrown into a state of fear and panic.

The corpses were still there as of yesterday (Tuesday), according to Jerry Alkali, the local councillor for Igu Ward, who corroborated the occurrence with the media.

Alkali further said that although authorities had been informed, the corpses’ presence had not been officially explained.

None of the deaths were locals, according to another neighbour who asked to remain anonymous, raising the possibility that the dead were either recruited or brought in before being murdered by security guards.

Bandits have attacked Tokulo, the hometown of the current chairman of the Bwari Area Council, several times, killing both residents and security personnel.

A similar occurrence, in which five remains believed to be those of bandits were found in September, took place in the Kawu village, which is located in the same location.

Although the current event was confirmed, an official from the FCT Special Anti-kidnapping Unit declined to elaborate on how it happened.

A request for clarification from FCT Police Command spokesman SP Josephine Adeh was not answered.
