Olayemi Oluwadamilare, an unemployed resident of the Air Force Quarters in Ilorin, Kwara State, appeared before an Area Court in Centre-Igboro on Tuesday, facing charges of allegedly stealing N58,000 from his neighbor.
The prosecutor, ASP Isah Abubakar, informed the court that on October 13, Nasir Habibullahi, who resides at the same address, filed a complaint at the Ilorin police headquarters.
According to the report, Habibullahi’s wife, Habibat, noticed the defendant near their apartment door while she was doing laundry, around the time the money went missing.
The prosecutor added that when the complainant tried to reach Oluwadamilare multiple times via phone, the defendant did not respond, leading Habibullahi to suspect him of the theft.
Oluwadamilare, however, pleaded not guilty, claiming he was not at home when the money disappeared.
Presiding Judge Hammad Ajumonbi granted the defendant bail, setting the amount at N100,000 with two sureties who must reside within the court’s jurisdiction.
The sureties are also required to provide N30,000 each and submit two passport photographs.
The case has been adjourned until October 31 for further hearing.
