The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has renewed its call for the removal of the Resident Electoral Commissioner (REC) in Ondo State, just weeks before the November 16 governorship election.
During the party’s campaign launch in Akure on Tuesday, PDP leaders expressed concerns over the REC’s alleged ties to the state, suggesting potential bias in overseeing the election process.
Governor Seyi Makinde of Oyo State, a key leader in the southwest for the PDP, urged the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to ensure the REC, Mrs. Babalola, does not manage the election.
He appealed to the national INEC chairman to take necessary action, emphasizing the importance of impartiality.
Makinde also urged voters to resist selling their votes, pointing out that PDP-governed states have performed better than those under the All Progressives Congress (APC). “We’ve all seen the consequences of vote buying. Look at the progress in Oyo, Osun, and other PDP-led states. This is just the beginning of the PDP’s victory in Ondo State,” he said.
Senator Ademola Adeleke, Governor of Osun State and Chairman of the PDP National Campaign Council, endorsed the party’s candidate for Ondo, Agboola Ajayi, as the best choice for the people. “Agboola is a seasoned leader. With God, we will not be disgraced. I bring positive news from Osun State,” Adeleke added.
