Must read

The Katsina State Command of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) has announced the arrest of a suspected cocaine trafficker heading towards Niger Republic.

The newly appointed state Commander, Mohammed Aminu-Abubakar, made the disclosure during his first media briefing in Katsina on Tuesday.

According to Commander Aminu-Abubakar, officers intercepted 0.642 kilograms of a substance believed to be cocaine from the suspect. The arrest took place on October 2, along the Kano-Kankia road.

He further stated that investigations are ongoing, and the suspect will face prosecution once the investigation is concluded.

In his remarks, Aminu-Abubakar, who assumed office last Friday, pledged to intensify efforts against drug trafficking in the state, using all available legal strategies to combat the menace.

He also highlighted the availability of rehabilitation facilities for drug users in Katsina and urged the public to refrain from drug abuse, warning that it leads to harmful consequences.

Additionally, the commander encouraged residents to make use of drug testing kits as a preventive tool to curb drug abuse. He assured collaboration with local operatives, other security agencies, and relevant stakeholders to tackle drug-related issues in the state.

Aminu-Abubakar was previously assigned to the NDLEA Strategic Command at Tin-Can Island Port in Lagos. He takes over from Hassan Sani, who has been transferred to the agency’s national headquarters.
