Paul David, a 50-year-old man, was arraigned on Tuesday at the Ojo Magistrates’ Court in Lagos for allegedly defrauding a woman of N407,000 under the pretense of securing a rental apartment for her.
The defendant appeared before Magistrate L.K.J Layeni, facing a three-count charge that included conspiracy, obtaining by false pretenses, and theft. David, however, pleaded not guilty to all charges.
According to the prosecutor, ASP Simon Uche, the defendant, along with others who are still at large, committed the offense in September.
The victim, Victoria Samuel, reportedly handed over N407,000 to David with the understanding that he would help her rent an apartment. However, the money was allegedly stolen instead.
The charges brought against David are violations of Sections 287, 316, and 411 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015.
Magistrate Layeni granted bail to the defendant in the sum of N200,000, with two sureties in like amount. The case has been adjourned until November 18 for mention.
