29-year-old man arraigned for stealing ATM card, withdrawing N810,000

A 29-year-old man, Shehu Garuba, has been arraigned before an Ado-Ekiti Chief Magistrates’ Court for allegedly stealing an Automated Teller Machine (ATM) card and withdrawing N810,000 from the victim’s account.

Garuba, who has no fixed address, faced a charge of theft. The prosecutor, Inspector Moyosola Adesola, informed the court that the defendant, along with an accomplice who is still at large, committed the offense on September 23 around 6:00 p.m. at Access Bank, Bank Road, Ado-Ekiti, Ekiti State.

Inspector Adesola alleged that Garuba stole an ATM card belonging to Adewunmi Moses and withdrew N810,000 from the account. The offense, she said, contravenes Section 295(1)(b) of the Ekiti State Criminal Law, 2021.

She requested an adjournment to allow time to review the case file and gather witnesses.

Garuba, however, pleaded not guilty to the charge. His defense counsel, Joy Raphael, urged the court to grant him bail, assuring that he would comply with all bail conditions.

Chief Magistrate Bankole Oluwasanmi granted Garuba bail in the sum of N100,000, with one surety of the same amount. The case was adjourned until October 30 for further hearing.
