Three killed in Lagos tanker accident

A tragic accident involving a tanker with failed brakes has claimed three lives in Lagos, according to the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA).

The incident, which occurred around 6:00 p.m. on Sunday at the Second Rainbow area, inward Mile 2 on the Oshodi-Apapa Expressway, involved the tanker crashing into two Volkswagen commercial buses and a Honda car with the registration number KTU 223 GH.

In a statement issued by Taofiq Adebayo, the director of public affairs and enlightenment for LASTMA, it was confirmed that the victims, all passengers in one of the Volkswagen buses, died on the spot.

LASTMA officers quickly arrived at the scene to secure the area, transferring two of the deceased to the Festac Police Station. A third victim was handed over to family members who were present at the scene.

Emergency services, including the Lagos State Fire Service and Lagos State Ambulance Service (LASAMBUS), responded promptly to assist in managing the situation.

LASTMA’s general manager, Olalekan Bakare-Oki, expressed deep condolences to the families of the victims, underscoring the importance of road safety.

“We are heartbroken by this tragic loss of life. It is critical that tanker drivers obey speed limits and prioritize safety, particularly when transporting hazardous materials. Safety must always come first on our roads,” he stated.
